Chinese Academy of Sciences issues Open Acces Policy

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has crafted an Open Access Policy and was published erlier this month. Through this policy, CAS will promote open access to scientific articles generated from publicly funded research. In publishing this policy CAS joins other major funders in supporting open access and this is one of the notable developments from funders in the far east.

Policy highlights

  • requires researchers and graduate students to deposit final, peer-reviewed manuscripts of research articles into the open access repositories of their respective institutes with 12 months of their publication in academic journals.
  • previously published works is encouraged to be deposited.
  • the policy authorises libraries and information departments to develop detailed guidelines in accordance with copyright laws.
